Out of so many globetrotters from all over the world, some opts for the urban space, enjoys being in the hustle bustle of the city crowds and shining light from skyscrapers; while some falls deeply in love with the peace and serenity found closer to the nature, least demanding for luxury stay or being a gourmand.

Partially a city dweller for now, I'm truly in love with the adventurous travel experience in Samosir Island. Thanks to AirAsia zero fare, I'd got return flight ticket to Medan with an extreme worthy price, which is only around RM100. :D

I don't really know where to go around Medan, this one of the largest city in Indonesia and also the capital city of the North Sumatra. Well it really can be boring if I spent all 5D4N in the city, without another 3 of my annual travel unimates. Thanks to my sweetie Izzati who had recommended me the right place to go, with reasonable price from a tour guide who brought us to hidden gems in the outskirt.

It took some time for us to get used to this map, really. Ahh and now I miss the feeling of getting lost in unfamiliar map.

We landed in Medan Airport, Kualalamu at night after a lit delay of the flight due to very bad weather. Picked up by Joe, our tourguide for the whole journey, as all the places in our itinerary couldn't be reached by public transport.

Transportation:

Spot his pity Toyota hurts so much. We can totally understand why it is so damaged after all the bumpy jumpy trip and someone vomited twice in the first day opppsss. He said he has to change his tyres in 2-3 months time. #ohwhat. Also spot the little number below the plate number which is the expired month and year of taxes.

Foods:

I couldn't recall what we all had during the journey except for nasi soto, or called as nasi padang. They almost served fried chicken and ayam penyet whereever we go. Hmm that's all I can remember now. Oh ya, not forgetting those extremely sweetened beverages, extra sugar added milo, ultra extra sugar added coffee. It will be good if we let them know "no sugar ya thank you".

One of the culture we experienced was... in some of the restaurant, they served all the food on our table but only what we ate will be paid. #thinkingaboutwhattodowithleftover

Travel spots:
Lake Toba, Parapat
Bukit Gibeon waterfall swimming pool, swimming pool filled with water from waterfall
Ponot/Siguragura Waterfall
Journey to Samosir Island by ferry (Ajibata Port)
Pusuk Buhit Hill & teletubbies hills
Sianjur Mulamula (Pusuk Buhit foothill)
Efrata Waterfall
Pangururan Samosir
Menara Pandang Tele, Kabupaten Samosir
Sipiso-piso Waterfall
Fruits and Vegetables Market, Berastagi
Si Debuk Debuk Hot Spring, foot of Sibayak Volcano
Sibayak Volcano, Berastagi
Kolam Abadi

Culture:
Desa Wisata Tomok Parsaoran (Sigale-gale wooden puppet dance)

I kinda miss all the places that I had been to. So close to the nature.
Out of all, I wish I had spent longer time sitting on those hills with windy weather, having more view on top from the volcano, swimming in very clean and refreshing water, with people I feel comfortable being with. Gosshhh where's next #flyingthought.

There're so many volcanoes, waterfalls, lakes, hills in Indonesia and I'd just been to few. These are some that taken my breath away...

Favourite view #1: Menara Pandang Tele, Kabupaten Samosir

Favourite view #2: Sianjur Mulamula (Pusuk Buhit foothill)

Favourite view #3: Teletubbies hills

Favourite view #4: Pangururan Samosir

Favourite view #5: Sibayak Volcano

Favourite view #6: Journey to Sipiso-piso Waterfall

Weather:
17-19 degree celsius in Samosir and around Danau Toba.
I thought it wouldn't be that freezing cold but I was totally wrong especially at night. Well, a lot of physical activities so still not that bad. I went back home and flu attacked for some days.

Each place has a story to tell. I'm glad that we spent days away from the city, tried to understand their languages and culture, seeing how the children being brought up... I feel so good to be homed after that.

Thanks to Joe Dermawan, our tourguide for bringing us around. We will miss the Marshmello's song - Alone  all the way, where'd you go - Fort Minor, the repeating unstoppable Bollywood song all the time, those crazy laughter and some stories during the bumpy journey.
You may need his contact if you plan to visit Medan Indonesia - Joe Dermawan, and let him know it's from Shanice. :)

I shouldn't be dragging so much right. #keepwriting
Can't wait till 2017 May and October!

I wanted to learn swimming since a million years ago *if I really live that long*. For a girl from a little town where condo or apartment can hardly be seen, no swimming pool available, except a small river in front of my house and a dangerous waterfall near the town, this desire is very normal. Me and my little childhood friends used to go down to the river only when our volleyball football or anything accidentally went into the river. And that waterfall, the road leading to the waterfall is the trail where me and those buddies used to jog and lepak. :) Rarely go in since safety became a concern. I play in the pool only when I visit my beloved relatives in Alor Setar.

Ahh talking about childhood... I couldn't stop recalling all those bitter sour sweet memories. So what kind of activities are we doing when there's no cinemas, no shopping malls, no skating rinks, no pools, no karaoke, and only one fast food franchise there (I feel blessed that it's not more than that loll). I deeply madly truly in love with the way I was brought up. I guess most of my friends in town having the same feeling. Cycling all the time, riding bike at night, 6pm evening is the best time cause we can do whatever we want we had date we played badminton we did training we went lepak at night market, time never wasted. Parents had been tough on me, but for now, I truly grateful for all the hardness, discipline, restriction I have had in the past. Love you to the moon and back my dad and mom. And grandma. I miss you. Yes people being rebellious at the age of 1718. Anyway, even till now, this is still one of the word that can be used to describe me I guess. "Shall settle down?" "Shall be with drama all day at home?" "Should you shouldn't you?" Making decision everyday in my life is the toughest thing I have to do cause I always value the pros and cons. "Do first, think later, okay?"

So I chose to have my swimming lesson with Swimin12 since April this year, like finally. I took up the Foundation and Relaxation Modules, and there're two more modules that I'm really interested in - Exercise and Survival Modules. Honestly I will be panic if I was thrown into deep water where my feet cannot reach the ground. Anyway I will just pretend that I'm alright cause I will conquer the feeling. :)
I learned breaststoke by my own and from a good friend back then but that's 'out of technique'. Not in the right ways, not smooth. Now after the lessons, I can swim in the correct position, and now in the progress of getting myself to the right way of freestyle. I'm truly blessed cause I have kind coaches and pretty playful and crazy nice lifeguards around when I was in Swimin12, in the PJ Palm Sports Center.
My swimming lesson was at night and this made me even happier cause night is the best time to settle down after a long day of work! Somemore the pool is surrounded by restaurants and cafes, musics, friendly people, and kids, making it more lively. Still, calm and peace.

 This is soooo calming.
I love this photo soo much. :)

Say hello to little Su En and Andy, one of the coach in Swimin12

Met EJ Yeap, the founder of Swimin12 in person, I'm impressed by him determination and positive energy. It's inspiring to listen to his stories of building up his own business and creating his passions. The way he mixed the kindness and passion together. Thanks for the sharing EJ :)

Here are EJ and Charis.
I found that this is really a sweet thing to see. ♥

Currently there is a fully sponsored underwater hockey workshop on going in PJ Palm Sports Center! One good step ahead to diving. :)) Still waiting for the right date and time so that I'll be able to join.
Check them out at Swimin12 Facebook page!

My swimming lesson actually ended. But it has became a habit and I love doing this.
Thanks to all my coaches and lifeguards I feel so blessed to have met you guys even though sometimes its annoying haha. Please continue to force me and push me to go beyond my capability okay. I'm totally fine with that or else I'll just make a splash in the pool. ;) *I actually wanted to write: "or else I'll push you into the pool." But I find it's super duper stupid to push a swimming coach into the pool.*

And know what, this girl, one of the coach, lost toneee of weight. I'm surprised when I found out that.
#gogofighting #staygood

Till next one, xoxo, Shanice

Hello long time no see my dear blog :)
I had returned my pink robe last Friday, felt so happy to meet two of my friends, saved me from boredom for waiting so so long on that rainy day. Time fliessss... speaking of which, it had been 4 months since I left varsity life.

July, August and early September were awesome in Vietnam, mixed a little bit with uncertain feeling about life afterward. I always think it is great to step out of comfort zone and see beyond what more I can do and more about myself, but it was kind of *slapface* when you found out it's hard to be someone that you want to be or have been admired for long, cause everyone is unique, with different type of personality.
I'm out of comfort zone, and also in the fear of disclosing all of me, might be feeling a little inferior in a crowd with so many great people. Well, I tried not to show, but some might feel.
Re-read the Sugarcube, and it was really touching to see all the sweet messages. I couldn't remember all the names, and I always know it's impossible to keep in touch so so close forever. Somehow, the experiences and the people I met are really great and I will never forget the summer in Ho Chi Minh city Vietnam, the Global Passport (GP) project, and my trip way up to Hanoi.

Here's the highlight summary of my summer 2015...

Mui Ne trip 19-22th July
Spot: Fairy stream - White sand dune - Beach
Jojo named the trip to Mui Ne Vietnam that we'd been right before the Global Passport project in Ho Chi Minh City as "team bonding trip" and I really like how she called it. I guess we wouldn't know each other well without all the midnight talk, drinking time, card playing moment and the very famous 'have I never ever' game loll. This is crazy. It was too late to blog about every little things in detail about the trip which is about 4 months ago [lolll wth slap face] but looking back at all the photos makes me kind of thankful for having those crazy peeps who love selfshot photoshot candidshot funnyshot xxxx.

Ho Chi Minh City 2nd Sept
I returned to HCMC by Jetstar Airways, not a good experience and I will definitely read the rules and regulations carefully next time.
2nd Sept was The Independence Day of Vietnam, also the day I lost my phone, with all the photos in it, I shouted like crazy on the walking street right before the fireworks show began. I didn't cry but I felt like idiot cuz this wasn't the first time grrrrhhhh.
But I have them with me...
Xie xie ni men <3

I lost my phone on this walking street when I was about to get some drinks for us.
Bad bad bad... I hate the feeling of losing something that means so much to me.
But that's also the time when I felt sweetness from the sweet students... Hoang, Tuyen, Anh, Tommy.
Will never forget all the little things.
Hope you all doing well in life :)

Last day in Ho Chi Minh City 4th Sept
My last day was with Winnie most of the time. I tried to make Onde-onde but failed... and I couldn't get shredded coconut lolll. Then it became Tang Yuan with malacca sugar loll.

Hey my roommate for 7 days in Vietnam :) Couchsurfing time. We will have more stories to share when we meet again one day.

And here's my buddy Jenna who brought me to rent Aodai the traditional Vietnamese costume :)

Goodbye HCMC and my thousand kind of emotional feelings.

If you were to ask me what are the great things about this AIESEC exchange journey...

- I'd lived in a city where I know nobody. I no longer fear of losing myself on the way, I probably get a little bit better in remembering direction *not completely of course and now I realized two is better than one lolll*. - Being brave is not not being scared. It means...in spite of being scared, still willing to go for it. - quote from Winnie hahaa.

- I felt the kindness. Whenever I feel like taking back some simplest act of kindness... I think about all the warm little things and helps that I'd received when I need them most. I came across with the quote "The world is full of nice people. If you can't find one, be one." Anyway, we need to learn to judge. But one thing that matters is... people tend to be kind to strangers that they do not understand, but harsh to people whom they are closer to. Ughh I don't like.

- I can feel my insecurity in an uncomfortable/whole new surrounding sometimes. I didn't get home sick anyway, as the time schedule were full most often. No time for me to be lonely and sometimes I need time to talk to myself lollll. Everything is so new that I try to be independent :'D I'd seen my weaknesses... that I need to change.

- I get inspired by so many people from time to time. Some of them are Malaysian, and some are young and passionate people from all over the world. I like our secret time to share about a lot of things in the room, I might look serious as what my roommate told me... but I can be really weird if I'm comfortable hahaa. Communication barriers might be the biggest fear for me, I tried not to be inferior which made me harder to share about myself, and now I will try harder.

- The cultural diversity is really an eye opening thing. I felt like I've traveled to more than one country... I know a little bit more about the countries where my team members came from, from the stories that they'd shared. Ahaha this is funny to tell lollll.

- I did stupid things that I don't want to share hahaaa. I get embarrassed with those memories but this is part of life isn't. No regret. This is what made me now. Now I know my limit, so I can take care of myself better.

- I miss them, those who matter. Friends, interns, students, the teams... but I truly understand that everyone is on their own path. I know... one day, when we meet, we will share things that we'd gone through, ups and downs, cheering for each others' achievements. Whoever stays in heart will not flow away by time and distance.

- Everyone has different faces where they chose to show. You may think I'm good now that I can enjoy life like this, but I have that imperfect part of me that I spent time struggling in it, stuck inside. Sometimes I tried to fit in to a situation that I might not feeling good at it. Withdraw if you're not happy, a friend told me this before. Do it if you're happy with it... yupp.

Well spent summer, everything kept in my journal, and heart.
Memories are sweet, cherish it.
